Ever wish the young men on your campus were more accountable for their actions? AIM Trainings Inc. offers a cost-effective, tested and proven, non-sectarian training program, enthusiastically received by university administration, coaches, and participants.

The college where we ran our initial pilot training (Southern Oregon University in Ashland, OR) was very concerned about a number of reported date rapes in the previous term, plus binge drinking and violence. Officials knew the futility of both laissez-faire and "zero-tolerance" approaches. An assault by a student athlete on a local woman led to a community dialogue that created the belief that we could do something different. A university administrator, the head football coach, representatives from the Ashland Police Department, members of the Women's Resource Center, the Dean of Students, and, finally, the University Provost - all participated in this dialogue.

In January 2005, the University Provost approved the pilot program. His concerns:

  1. Is it okay to do a program specifically for men?
  2. How do we evaluate the program's success to determine if we want to replicate?
  3. Can we afford this?
    • As there are so many programs that address women's issues, and so few that address comparable issues for men, there was unanimous agreement that a program for men would be supported across the campus.
    • The university psychology developed a before-during-after survey to assess the training's success. The results were impressive. The highest marks came from the student participants who have excitedly volunteered to help staff the next workshop.
    • Initial financial start-up support came from local community members who believed in the project. A large contribution was given to the University Foundation in the name of the AIM project. The training was so successful that the Student Affairs Committee unanimously voted to fund the balance of the program, such that it cost the university nothing.
AIM Trainings Inc is a non-profit (soon to be 501C3) corporation, dedicated to the proposition that, in Gordon Clay's words:

"As a man, my inherent nature is to be curious, gentle, intimate, responsible, enthusiastic, sensual, tolerant, courageous, honest, vulnerable, affectionate, proud, playful, spiritual, committed, wild, nurturing, peaceful, helpful, intense, compassionate, joyful, direct, active, and to fully and safely express all these emotions."
